The Pathway · Chapter 5 of 16

The Weekly Lesson Rhythm

How every meeting flows

During the first group meeting

  • ✦Introduction — Explain the importance of discipleship and how GGMD works. Go over What is Discipleship in this guidebook together.
  • ✦Time & Place — Discuss the default meeting time and place. You can always change this later, but make being well organized a priority.

Every meeting follows the same rhythm

  1. 1

    Open in Prayer

The leader opens by inviting the Holy Spirit to guide your time together. This sets the tone and reminds the group that discipleship is a spiritual work, not just an intellectual exercise.

Keep the opening prayer brief and focused — ask the Holy Spirit to speak through the Scriptures and to one another.

  2. 2

    Read the Covenant Commitments Together

The leader selects one or two of the Covenant Commitments to read aloud as a group. This weekly rhythm reinforces your shared commitment to Christ and to each other. (Optional: review the GOSPEL and/or BLESS rhythms.)

Rotate which commitments you read each week so the group engages with all of them over time.

For the heart of the lesson there are two options: complete the entire lesson in one session, or let disciples answer the questions at home and discuss them the following week.

Option 1

Complete the Lesson Together

Great for new groups and shorter studies

Step 3: Read the Scripture passages and discuss the Biblical Principle as a group.
Step 4: Work through the REAL Questions, the Heart Question, and the Deeper Time section together. Encourage everyone to share their observations.

Option 2

Study During the Week

Recommended for groups that meet regularly

Step 3: Begin by discussing everyone's answers from the previous lesson.
Step 4: Read the Scripture passages and discuss the Biblical Principle together.
Step 5: Assign the REAL Questions, the Heart Question, and the Deeper Time section as homework.

  1. 1

    Lastly · Close in Prayer

End the meeting with prayer for one another. The leader can invite specific prayer requests or lead a closing prayer that applies the lesson's theme to the group's daily lives.
